Prof Ashok Rattan is a medical microbiologist by profession. He was conferred APJ Abdul
Kalam Award for Lifetime Contribution to Medical Sciences in 2018 and Shriniwas Oration in
2021 by Indian Association of Microbiologists for his contribution to laboratory diagnosis of
Tuberculosis. He was conferred KGMU Foundation day oration by Department of
Microbiology in 2022. He was Advisor in Pathkind Laboratories till Dec 2021. Now he is
Chairman medical committee and quality of Redcliffe Laboratories. He is also online
Professor and Mentor for African Health Research Organization University being run from
Glasgow, Scotland.
He has held important positions in academics:
a. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; (from Assistant Professor to
Addl Professor)
b. JN Medical college, Aligarh; (Demonstrator and Lecturer)
c. Mahatma Gandhi Medical University, Jaipur (Prof & Head)
d. Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, New Delhi); (Professor)
e. Sharjah Medical College, UAE (Visiting Professor)
2. in industrial research [Ranbaxy New Drug Discovery (Director) and Fortis Clinical
Research Ltd (CEO)]
3. in Diagnostic labs [Religare SRL Diagnostics (Director), Star Metropolis (Medical
Director and COO) and Pathkind Labs (Advisor)];
4. in tertiary care hospital [(JN Medical College, AIIMS and Medanta the Medicity
(Chairman, Laboratory Medicine)] and
5. Public Health [CAREC, PAHO/WHO (Medical Microbiologist and Lab Director), Public
Health Technology Transfer of PHFI (Consultant)]
6. He has published over 100 research papers in peer reviewed international journals,
7. guided over 40 students for their MD/MS/PhD and
8. is named in 30 international patents.
9. He is also the author of NBT sponsored book published by Churchill Livingstone,
Antimicrobials in Laboratory Medicine (2000)
10. Has contributed more than a dozen chapters in different books
11. He has conducted workshops
a. on WHONET in all nine SEARO countries;
b. On different aspects of medical education in KL Wig CMET, AIIMS
