Sputum For AFB
Positive AFB smear results provide a first indication of potential TB disease. Smear-positivity and grade as per National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) indicates relative bacterial burden and correlates with disease presentation. Patient treatment may be initiated for TB based on smear result and clinical presentation. Changes in smear status are important for monitoring response to therapy.
