Phospholipid Antibodies
Anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune condition that shows clot formation & loss of pregnancy. Phospholipid antibodies are directed against certain specific proteins in your own body. This results in clot formation in both arteries & veins of your legs & in the brain. Risk factors that lead to the formation of anti-phospholipid antibodies are Lupus; genetic factors; infections such as Borrelia, HIV, Leptospira & Treponema; many drugs. Presence of these antibodies in pregnant women can lead to miscarriage & still birth. This assay detects both IgG & IgM type of antibodies of which IgG indicates past exposure and IgM indicates recent active disease.
