GGTP (Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase)

GGTP (Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase) is an enzyme produced by the liver. GGTP is the most sensitive indicator of liver disease. High levels are seen in hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver tumors, fatty liver disease & alcoholic hepatitis. It is also used to screen for hidden alcoholism. Certain drugs can increase the levels of GGTP like Acetaminophen, Phenytoin etc. Birth control pills reduce GGTP levels.
