D-Dimer is a protein formed in your body when a blood clot dissolves. Normally it is undetectable or very low in the blood. High values suggest blood clotting condition indicating frequent formation & breakdown of clots as seen in deep veins (Deep vein thrombosis), clot in lungs (Pulmonary embolism), many blood clots in your body (DIC) or stroke.
